What is CAIRS-KeraNatural?

Allograft corneal ring implantation for keratoconus refers to a surgical procedure in which a small piece of corneal tissue (allograft) from a donor is implanted into the cornea of a patient with keratoconus.

The corneal tissue or KeraNatural product, which is human collagen, applied to the eye with keratoconus is safely packaged and sterilized at VisionGift Eye Bank in the USA.

KeraNatural (Allograft corneal ring) is a small, semi-circular piece of collagen/cornea that is placed in the cornea to help reshape and improve vision. The procedure involves tunneling the cornea with a laser and inserting KeraNatural into the corneal tissue. The ring helps to flatten the cornea, thickening the cornea, which can improve vision and reduce the need for or increase tolerance to contact lenses or glasses.

The allograft corneal ring is made from donated corneal tissue that has been processed and sterilized to eliminate any potential disease or infection. The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis and patients may experience some discomfort or tenderness in their eyes for a few days after surgery. However, most patients can return to normal activities within a week or two after the procedure.

Types of Cardiomyopathy

Restrictive

Restrictive cardiomyopathy is a condition where your ventricles do not thicken, yet they still become stiff and rigid and cannot pump blood effectively.

Dilated

In this type of cardiomyopathy, the pumping ability of your heart’s main pumping chamber — the left ventricle — becomes enlarged (dilated) and can’t effectively pump blood out of the heart.

Hypertrophic

This type involves abnormal thickening of your heart muscle, which makes it harder for the heart to work. It mostly affects the muscle of your heart’s main pumping chamber (left ventricle).

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular

In this rare type of cardiomyopathy, the muscle in the lower right heart chamber (right ventricle) is replaced by scar tissue, which can lead to heart rhythm problems. It’s often caused by genetic mutations.
